A good day to stand outside #BelgiumStrike

Today is D-Day in Belgium. For weeks now, all you hear about - whether it's on the news, or it's chatting amongst friends and colleagues - is this massive nationwide strike which takes place today. Well, it supposed to have started last night. What makes this a strike worthy of my post is that it's a rare case when all three unions apparently decided to strike at the same time.

#TopGear is back!

Oh wow! I just finished watching the first episode of the 18th series of Top Gear on the BBC and it was awesome! For a while now, that spark seemed to have been lost in the show, but it's back - mostly thanks to that amazing Lambo Aventador.

J. Edgar (2011)

Well, irony struck quite hard last Thursday when I dropped by the cinema to watch J. Edgar the movie. Considering Wednesday, January 18 was when the internet protested against the SOPA and PIPA bills being pushed through the US. The fact that the bills were massively supported by Hollywood (more MPAA than the artists to be honest) which would end up restricting freedom on the internet wasn't quite where the irony hit.

#StopSOPA

I'm throwing my weight behind the movement against the ridiculous bill they're trying to pass in the US to seriously limit internet freedom. Please join the millions of voices on the internet against this atrocity.

#TopGear Series 18 starting next weekend

This little gem just popped online today. It's the trailer for the 18th series of the most popular motoring TV show in the world: Top Gear. If you have been following the show very loyally, like me, you'd know that this year also means the new format Top Gear turns 10. I must say the last couple of episodes have been a bit dull, culminating in the India Special which caused so much commotion for an episode that I actually fell asleep watching. Still, the shows always tends to average out brilliantly, so I'm definitely looking forward to the new season! Enjoy!

Top Gear is back on January 29 at 20:00 GMT on the BBC.

President Ma wins second term in Taiwan

Incumbent President Ma Ying-jeou has been called as the winner for the 13th presidential election of the Republic of China (Taiwan). This follows a tight election campaign of the only democratically elected government of the Chinese people, where most polls shows a small victory for President Ma but all too close to call. President Ma campaigns as the candidate of the Kuomintang, or Nationalist Party, formed under the leadership of the founding father of the post-imperial China, Dr Sun Yat-sen.

Standard & Poor's are buffoons! #spidiots

Oh, good! The total retards at Standard and Poor's just finished downgrading every country in the world. Their hope is that we all tremble in our pants (and female equivalent) which will then destroy the world economy because no one will dare to invest anymore. Well, of course that's not what they hope. However, because of their idiocy, that will be the result! Here's an idea, let's all ignore them. Let's breakdown these overpaid douchebags and drive them out of their massive skyscraper. What a load of cr@£! First rant of the year over...

Looking into the future #OFMNwebinar

Yesterday afternoon, I joined a webinar hosted by an initiative under ACEA, the Association of Automobile Manufacturers in Europe, called Our Future Mobility Now. The focus for this inaugural webinar was how automotive manufacturers view the future of urban mobility. To be honest, I didn't know what to expect, but I think it was an hour and a half very well spent.

Puss in Boots (2011)

When Shrek first arrived on the silver screen, it was a brand new take to the traditional fairy tale. It moved away from the classic Disney line of storytelling and set the tone for how Dreamworks will continue to do animated features. They stuffed Shrek full of popular/cultural references. The protagonist is very far from princes and princesses in fact. It worked.

Great start to 2012 with #KingKallis double tonne

Happy 2012 everyone!

The year started off in some fashion for my all-time favourite cricketer, Jacques Kallis. As Cricinfo puts it: "a colossus in the South African team." Today, back at our shared hometown of Cape Town, King Kallis smacked a wonderful 224 runs before finally succumbing just before lunch on his second day out in Newlands.
